The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Councillor Veronica Cawley welcomed a large attendance to County Hall during Heritage Week for the launch of the Sligo Heritage ‘Life and Lore’ Collection, a collection of 74 CDs of oral history recordings that provide diverse accounts of Sligo life, heritage and culture. In Sligo, €10,000 has been allocated for the urgent stabilisation and repair of Ahamlish Church of Ireland, Grange, County Sligo. Sligo County Council in association with the Heritage Council has prepared a draft Biodiversity Action Plan for County Sligo. Biodiversity encompasses more than wildlife, it is the total variety of life on earth and includes everything from people, plants and animals to micro-organisms, genetic variation and habitats. Sligo’s Draft Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) is a way of encouraging people and organisations to work together to deliver action for biodiversity locally, for the benefit of all.
Sligo County Council is now seeking the views of all the community on the draft County Sligo Biodiversity Action Plan. To increase awareness of and engagement with the draft Biodiversity Action Plan a public information session will be held on Thursday 4th November 2010 at 7pm, in the Sligo Park Hotel, Sligo. Sligo County Council in association with the Heritage Council has prepared a draft Conservation Plan for Sligo Gaol, a historic building of National significance. A conservation plan is a policy document which explains why a historic building is significant, what issues affect it and how that significance will be retained in any future use, alteration, development or repair.
Sligo County Council is now seeking the views of all the community on the draft Sligo Gaol Conservation Plan. A series of initiatives have been put in place to increase awareness of the draft conservation plan and to facilitate public consultation including a public information session and open day.
