Effluent discharges to waters and sewers, with a few exceptions require a licence in accordance with Section 4 and 16 of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Acts of 1977 and 1990. In addition, discharges of greater than 5m3 of sewage effluent to groundwater requires a licence under Section 4 of the above act. At present, there are 16 active discharge licences in the County. Table 1 below details the register of licensed discharges to waters and sewers. Sligo County Council monitors and enforces all licences to ensure compliance with all conditions set.
