Waste Activity Permits

Waste Permits are authorisations issued by each Local Authority for waste activities within their functional area.

Traceability

The permitting system is one of a number of initiatives being used to regulate those in the waste business.  Transferring waste to a permitted collector, will in time, ensure traceability, identify waste arising and help track movements across the state.  Legitimate waste contractors will have many operating conditions attached to their permits or licences.  These conditions are designed to make operators conduct their business to a certain standard with a view to upgrading and regularising waste activities.

One difficult problem arising at this time is the in appropriate and illegal disposal of building waste.  Very frequently this material is offloaded just about anywhere, fields, low-lying land, even wetlands and sensitive locations.
