National Spring Clean 2012

Each year during April, Irelands largest anti-litter awareness campaign, National Spring Clean, gets underway.  National Spring Clean aims to support the voluntary efforts of local people in combating litter pollution. Throughout the month, Sligo County Council encourages clean-up activities by groups that register with An Taisce to organise a clean-up event.

To Get Involved

Tidy Towns committees, schools, societies or any group of people coming together in order to tackle litter will receive assistance from An Taisce and Sligo County Council.  Your support and leadership is needed to get actively involved in this clean-up campaign. To organise an event in your area, simply register with An Taisce on www.nationalspringclean.org or call 01-400-2219 with details of your name, address, telephone number and how many volunteers are in your group.  You can also pick up a registration form from County Hall, Riverside or from the Environment Offices, Unit 9, Cleveragh Business Park, Sligo.

This year, Sligo County Council will supply pre-paid waste collection bags or clear bags to groups that have registered with An Taisce.  Please note that only bags that have been distributed by Sligo County Council will be collected and any other bags, including An Taisce bags, will not be picked up.

Sligo County Council will provide hand-held litter pickers to all groups at a reduced cost of €3 each.  We will also provide tabards and gloves while stocks last.

Please advise Sligo County Council of your intended efforts before your group commences the clean-up so we can arrange for collection of bags, if applicable.  You can contact (087) 261-5507 or 071-9111901 for all information.
