2011 - A Great Year for Sligo's Beaches

EPA'S ANNUAL BATHING WATER QUALITY REPORT FOR 2011

Following the publication of the Environmental Protection Agency’s  Annual Bathing Water Report for 2011 in May 2012, Sligo County Council would like to stress that contrary to reports in on the local radio and in papers, the water quality at Streedagh Beach in North Sligo complied fully with both the guide and mandatory bathing water standards. Guide standards being the highest standards to be achieved. Water Quality at Streedagh Beach is classified at good status,  and not sufficient as reported by some news reports/newspapers. Testing of Bathing Water at Streedagh Beach has been on-going since 2007 and water quality at this beach has never been compromised and is of the highest quality. Testing of water quality at beaches in Co Sligo will commence later this month and will continue throughout the 2012 bathing season. Results of all monitoring carried out will be publicly available both locally on beach notice boards as well as on Sligo County Council’s website.
