The Office

Overview and Functions

Better Local Government - A Programme for Change published by the Department of Environment and Local Government in 1996 paved the way for major changes within the County Council Structure - one such change was the establishment of the Office of Community and Enterprise.

The Community and Enterprise Department play a pivotal role in the integration process between Sligo Local Authorities and Local Development Agencies, Community and Voluntary Organisations, State Agencies operating within the County so that services are more coordinated between the social partners represented on the CDB.

The importance of community development to the economic and social progress of Sligo’s towns and villages and rural communities can scarcely be overstated. Sligo County Council, through the activities of the Community and Enterprise office based in the Development Centre, Cleveragh Road, acknowledges the vital role that communities play in their own development and prosperity.
