New Pay & Display System for Sligo - 80 New Meters Installed Throughout City

As part of its commitment to improve the management of the parking environment and to provide a more efficient service to motorists, Sligo Borough Council has
replaced the existing Disc Parking system with a more efficient Pay and Display Parking Meter System. A total of 80 meters have been installed throughout the city at designated locations, and the new meters are designed to accept credit cards and euro coins. Parking can also be paid for by Mobile Phone.

Easy to find and operate
The new Mayor of Sligo Councillor Jonathan McGoldrick was the first customer to try out the new system, and he was very enthusiastic about its benefits ‘I think the new parking meters will be warmly welcomed by local businesses and shoppers. Their placement means that there will always be a meter within easy access, and their ability to accept payment by cash or by mobile phone is an excellent feature. It will certainly be very useful for visitors in particular who will find the new meters easy to find and easy to operate.’

Receipt
Whatever your preferred choice of payment, the Pay and Display meter provides the motorists with a receipt to display on the windshield of the vehicle which can also be used as proof of payment. All On-Street Parking Meters will be installed at a rate of €1.20 per hour. This new system will help distribute limited on-street space where the demand for spaces often exceeds supply

All Pay and Display Parking Meters in the Car Park will be installed at the daily or hourly rate of charge. Motorists will also be able to pay in advance - for example, a person parking their car on an ‘evening out’ may wish to pay for parking for all or part of the next day, and this can be accommodated under the new system

Paying by mobile phone
In order to facilitate the motorist who is short of change, payment can also be made by mobile phone. Instructions are easy to follow, and the cost of this transaction is the same as a standard text message. The screen of the Pay and Display machine then shows the user a reference number to be entered in his mobile. Once this number is entered, confirmation of payment by mobile is requested. After the purchase is authorised, the terminal issues the ticket which the user takes and places on his car’s dashboard.

Support of retailers
Sligo Borough Council expressed its gratitude to retailers who supported the Disc Parking System for the past number of years and who provided an invaluable service to the people of Sligo and to motorists visiting the city.
