Gerry Retires after 23 Years Service

Gerry Jennings served as a Revenue Collector for Sligo Borough Council (formerly Sligo Corporation) since 1983.  He was responsible for a wide range of duties, including the collection of rents, water charges, refuse charges and housing loans. Gerry also worked as field officer on the Register of Electors.

Over the course of his service with the Council, Gerry developed a great rapport with the public. He epitomised the best ideals of customer service before the phrase was coined, and he always did his utmost to assist the general public in whatever way he could.

Gerry was equally popular with the staff, who admired his sense of duty and dedication. In recent years his work in the Finance Department included the administration of Parking Fines. Collecting money in any circumstances requires special attributes, but Gerry’s ‘customer-friendly’ approach and affable manner left him ideally suited to this difficult job.

Gerry will be sorely missed by his colleagues in City Hall, and this was reflected in the large turn-out at a recent function to mark his retirement.

All Gerry’s colleagues wish him a long and enjoyable retirement to share with Agnes and his family.
