Sligo Arts Service: Celebrating Ten Years of Service

Sligo Arts Office celebrates 10 years of achievements this year and uses the occasion to mark its distinctive contribution to local arts development and to launch a new name Sligo Arts Service. The occasion will be marked on Friday 20 April by an event in County Hall which will feature various artists/organisations/participants from the programme and launch a celebratory brochure which will feature 10 images reflecting the various programme areas of Sligo Arts Service 1997-2007.

- Vogler Spring Festival

  • A 4-day Intergenerational Arts Celebration & Exhibition Programme at the Factory Performance Space, Sligo from May 10 to 13, opening with a Discussion Forum Building Community & Exploring Place involving artists, participants young and old, media, politicians and arts/health/community agencies.  This is a special event in 2007 as part of Bealtaine Sligo which celebrates creativity in older age throughout Sligo City and County with a month
    long Festival of Events, Workshops and Exhibitions in the Visual Arts, Music, Literature, Drama and Short Film. The Festival will be launched on Tuesday 1st May in the Sligo Park Hotel at an afternoon tea dance with music by The Jazz Lads. The Festival Poster & Brochure will be available from the Arts Department in April.

  • A Vogler Spring Festival commission to Irish composer Elaine Agnew to write a work for Children’s Choir and String Quartet. Six Primary Schools which were part of the Vogler Music Education Programme 1999-2004 take part in the composition project with Elaine and poet Eibhlin NicEochaidh. A choir from Ardkeerin NS, Riverstown will premiere the new choral work with the Vogler Quartet at a 2pm concert on Saturday 5th May. This special commission is part of the annual Vogler Spring Festival which spans four days, nine concerts and features sixteen performers including the Vogler Quartet over the May Bank Holiday Weekend in picturesque Drumcliffe in an international gathering of acclaimed Irish and international musicians and muchloved
    masterpieces. Booking is now open for all concerts and the Festival Brochure is available from the Arts Department.
