New ‘Pay & Display’ System for Sligo

70 New Meters will be installed throughout city
As part of its commitment to improve the management of the parking environment and to provide a more efficient service to motorists, Sligo Borough Council will shortly replace the existing Disc Parking system with a more efficient ‘Pay and Display’ Parking Meter System. A total of 70 meters will be installed throughout the city at designated locations this summer, and the new meters are designed to accept credit cards, sterling and euro coins. Parking can also be paid for by Mobile Phone.

Display Parking Meter System will operate side by side until such time as stocks of Parking Discs have been used up by retailers and motorists.

Receipt
Whatever your preferred choice of payment, the ‘Pay and Display’ meter provides the motorists with a receipt to display on the windshield of the vehicle which can also be used as proof of payment.

All On-Street Parking Meters will be installed at a rate of €1.20 per hour or 20 cent per 20 minutes. This new system will help distribute limited on-street space where the demand for spaces often exceeds supply.

All ‘Pay and Display’ Parking Meters in the car park will be installed at the daily or hourly rate of charge.

Paying by mobile phone
In order to facilitate the motorist who is short of change, payment can also be made by mobile phone. Instructions are easy to follow, and the cost of this transaction is the same as a standard text message.

The screen of the Pay and Display machine then shows the user a reference number to be entered in his mobile. Once this number is entered, confirmation of payment by mobile is requested. After the purchase is authorised, the terminal issues the ticket which the user takes and places on his car’s dashboard.

Support of retailers
Sligo Borough Council expressed its gratitude to all retailers who supported the Disc Parking System for the past number of years and who provided an invaluable service to the people of Sligo and to motorists visiting the city.
