New Facilities Planned for Ballymote
Sligo County Council is preparing plans for the provision of a range of important facilities in Ballymote, including a new Fire Station and a Public Services Centre. It is envisaged that the new Centre will include new Area Offices for Ballymote, Branch Library and will also house other services including the Health Services Executive (HSE).

Partnership the key in Ballymote LocalArea Plan 2005-2011
The Local Area Plan (LAP) for Ballymote was adopted by Sligo County Council on 5th December 2005. The aim of this plan is to bring a cohesive and rational structure to the development of Ballymote. The main objectives of the plan focus on improving the residential land supply, commercial facilities and enterprise functions of the town so that Ballymote can successfully provide essential services to its hinterland. The County Development Plan promotes Ballymote as a Key Support Town, serving the south and south-east of the county.
A key policy of the LAP is to work in partnership with local development and community associations, to examine ways of promoting and sustaining the character and service role of the town.
Housing Schemes Completed in Camross, Ballintogher and Riverstown
Sligo County Council has completed the second phase of Camross housing scheme. The scheme consists of 16 houses.
The second phase of Ballintogher Housing Scheme will also be completed this month (April 2007), which will see the provision of eight 3 bedroom houses and two four bedroom units.
A four house scheme has also been completed in Riverstown, and the blockwork has been completed on a six house scheme in Culfadda.
Mini-Plan identifies Collooney ‘Key Settlement Village’
A Mini-Plan for Collooney is integrated into the Sligo County Development Plan framework. Collooney is designated as a Key Satellite Village under the Settlement Structure / Hierarchy for County Sligo. Some of the key proposals in the mini-plan are to maintain and enhance the conservation value of the Unshin River area, to encourage the creation of an interesting streetscape and to ensure that new development is consistent in form and character with the existing buildings along the main street. Major commercial and industrial development is promoted on the eastern side of the N4 national road. The plan contains further objectives in respect of the built heritage, transport, circulation and parking and residential development.
New train station envisaged in Ballysadare Mini-Plan
The fast-growing village of Ballysadare is covered by a Mini-Plan included in the current County Development Plan. Ballysadare is a Key Satellite Village, as designated under the Settlement Structure/Hierarchy for County Sligo. Some of the key proposals for the sustainable development of Ballysadare include the provision of a new train station with park-andride facilities, a new access road to the quarry, a 15-acre land reservation for the relocation of St Mary’s College and a new designated Scenic Route (L-6101).
Road Works at Crossboy
Work was carried out on upgrading signing and lining on approaches to the junction of Regional Routes R290 and R287 at Crossboy in 2006. This scheme was funded under the Discretionary Improvement Grant Scheme. A sum of E20,000 has been allocated under the Low Cost Accident Reduction Scheme in 2007 to upgrade the adjacent junction of Regional Route R287 and local road L7604 to Lake Isle of Inisfree in 2007.
New Wastewater Treatment Plant for Gurteen
It was agreed that the Council will proceed to construct a new wastewater treatment plant at Rathmadder, Gurteen, Co. Sligo. The proposed development will consist of an inlet screening works, pumping stations, aeration basin and settlement tank, together with a stormwater holding tank and sludge holding tank. An administration building will also be provided in the new facility.
