The opening of the Sligo Inner Relief Road on the N4 is an indicator of the significantly higher expenditure and construction activity now occurring in the Border, Midlands and Western region (BMW) of the country.
This project, which is located on the N4 Dublin to Sligo road, forms part of the East/West Strategic Corridor and the Trans European Road Network.
At a national level the development of the N4 over the recent years has allowed for greater access to the west and north west of the country. The Authority is committed to the ongoing development of the BMW region in line with Government policy. As part of future development on the N4, construction is well underway on the M4 Kilcock/Kinnegad motorway and earlier this year construction work commenced on the Edgeworthstown by-pass. The provision of high quality road infrastructure such as this will open up the west/northwest to business and tourism alike.
The Sligo Inner Relief Road will provide for a safer movement of traffic in the town, relieve congestion and as the gateway to the north west of the country, will allow Sligo to build on its reputation as a major tourist destination.
I thank all those involved in delivering this project, including our friends in the European Union for their financial support.
