Message from Mayor, Rosaleen O'Grady

The opening of the new Inner Relief Road is great news for Sligo. It will significantly reduce journey times, will relieve traffic congestion around Sligo, and will make our city a more pleasant and amenable location for locals and visitors alike.

This is the largest roads project undertaken by the Sligo Local Authorities, and I want to commend the Project Team for delivering this road to the highest standards and many months ahead of schedule.. They can be enormously proud of their achievement. I also want to pay tribute to elected members of successive councils who debated this project for many years. While many diverse opinions were articulated in the Council Chamber, we were united in the common objective of providing a proper road infrastructure for Sligo.

One special feature of the new road is its stunning setting, and motorists travelling from the south will see the majestic backdrop of Benbulben at they approach the city.

Sligo is a confident, vibrant city and I see the opening of the Inner Relief Road as a landmark achievement in the ongoing success story of this region.
