Sligo Ladies Team Honoured at County Hall

County Hall had a ‘capacity crowd’ recently as Cathaoirleach Councillor Margaret Gormley welcomed the players, management and supporters of the County Ladies team to a reception she hosted in their honour.

The Cathaoirleach welcomed her guests, to County Hall, and congratulated them on their magnificent performance in Croke Park, where they almost pulled off a seemingly impossible comeback. Councillor Gormley has been a follower of ladies football for some time, and had travelled to support the Sligo team the length and breadth of the country. ‘Success did not occur overnight. It required years of dedicated effort by a number of very committed people. I think the manner and margin of the semi-final win over Cork brought the Sligo ladies team to national attention, and caused many people to sit up and take note of the excellent standards being set by Ladies football in Co Sligo. I would not let the fact that we lost out to Kildare tarnish what has been a magnificent and exciting year, and every member of the team can be proud of their achievements.’

Each member of the County Panel received a commemorative scroll, and the Cathaoirleach made special presentations to team manager Kathleen Kane and captain Jackie Mulligan.
