€6m Enniscrone Scheme Officially Opened

Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal Noel Ahern performed the official opening of Nephin Drive Housing Scheme in Enniscrone. The €5.7m scheme is a joint initiative involving Sligo County Council, Cluid Housing Association and the North Western Health Board. This partnership between the three agencies is the first of its kind in County Sligo. The new scheme includes 21 houses for rent provided by Cluid, 9 houses for rent by Sligo County Council, 11 bed group home for young adults with learning difficulties and Primary Care Centre provided by the North Western Health Board.

Minister Ahern remarked that ‘Over €4.6m has been made available by my Department through voluntary housing schemes, Local Authority construction programme and communal facilities for this project. This significant funding has resulted in the provision of 41 units of accommodation as well as ancillary communal facilities. I think you will agree that the scheme has been finished to the highest quality of design and is another example of the ongoing progress being made in the provision of social housing in recent years.’

In her address, Cathaoirleach Councillor Gormley said it was a day of celebration for the local community. ‘The provision of integrated services is a valuable resource for Enniscrone, and the manner of its delivery could form the template for other schemes around the country. The partnership approach between the Sligo County Council, Cluid and the North Western Health Board lie at the heart of this initiative, and today’s official opening marks the culmination of years of dedicated effort by many people.’ The Chief Executive of Cluid Housing Association, Brian O’Gorman, thanked the various members of the project team - Bourke Builders, Consultants Taylor Associates, Quantity Surveyors M J Mcauls, and Consulting Engineers Concannon Healy Heffernan. ‘Developments such as Nephin Drive are possible only with the co-operation of many individuals and organisations. Sligo County Council is an important strategic partner for this association. The first scheme that Cluid constructed outside Dublin was in Sligo, it represented an important springboard for the association and we look forward to our continued working with Sligo County Council.’
