‘Jewel in Borough Council’s Crown’ takes her leave of City Hall

The many friends and former work colleagues of Roisin Gannon convened in the Sligo Park Hotel recently to celebrate her 40 years of service with Sligo Borough Council.

Mayor of Sligo Councillor Tom McSharry formally thanked Roisin for her years of dedicated service to the people of Sligo:

‘You would travel a fair distance before you would meet anyone who would say a bad word about Roisin. She embodied all the attributes of customer service before the term became fashionable - obliging, hard working, thoroughly professional in all her dealings with councillors and the general public. Discretion and modesty were her hallmarks and more important than being an excellent worker, she was a true and loyal companion to her many friends. Over the years she touched the lives of many people both inside and outside the walls of City Hall, and what finer memory could she leave as her legacy.’

Town Clerk John McNabola had many fond memories of working alongside Roisin: ‘I cannot express an adequate term to describe her outstanding qualities. She was as bright as she was pleasant. She was as competent as she was energetic. She was a jewel in the crest of Sligo Borough Council who created a special experience for our customers. She was a friend to everyone and made coming to work so much more attractive for me and for many many people throughout her service.

Roisin will be a great loss to the workforce of Sligo Borough Council. She possessed exceptional charm, extraordinary merit and enormous ability. She possessed a wealth of experience and knowledge of the affairs of the Council which easily surpassed technology data bases. Her loyalty to the Borough and to her colleagues is a model for all. Her unassuming and generous spirit made her a special person to all who encountered her.’
