Public Consultation on N15 Re-alignment

A series of public information meetings in North Sligo formed part of the consultation process for the N15 re-alignment project. The meetings (hosted in Grange, Rathcormac and Cliffoney) gave local people a chance to examine the route options and discuss them with Council staff. The existing N15 National Primary Route is a single carriageway roadway with a length of 26.42 kilometres in county Sligo. The road is below standard in terms of width and re-alignment, and has a high accident rate.

It is proposed that the new roadway will be dual carriageway; It will be a ‘two plus one’ road, which consists of two lanes in one direction of travel and one lane in the opposite direction.

The re-alignment scheme will represent a major investment in the county’s infrastructure, and will bring a number of benefits...

  • Reduce travel time and improve access to the northwest
  • Reduce accident rates
  • Reduce transport costs
  • Improve transport infrastructure for local traffic
  • Remove ‘through traffic’ from villages and residential areas, thereby reducing accident risk and improving environmental standards
  • Create a safer environment for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and children.
