Minister ‘Switches On’ Council’s New Customer Service Facility

Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal Noel Ahern performed a symbolic ‘switching on’ of Sligo County Council’s new Customer Service Facility in County Hall. The new service will provide a focal point for customers wishing to access the Council’s over 400 services.

Since the Customer Services facility became operational in May of this year, it has dealt with over 5000 contacts between callers to the desk, phone and e-mail enquiries. Special guest at the launch was the services’ 5000th customer Gerard Quinlivan, who was accompanied by his wife Mary. They were presented with a set of two mobile phones courtesy of Vodaphone.

In this address, Minister Ahern congratulated Sligo County Council for their commitment to the highest standards of customer service, and commended the Customer Service Team of Brid, Eithne and Mary for the excellent manner in which they have represented the Council as the vital first point of contact. The Minister noted that with the volume of information in the public domain, the Customer Service team would provide a valuable resource for the people of Sligo.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Margaret Gormley remarked ‘This is a very worthwhile initiative, as every Councillor and staff member in this Council is committed to delivering a quality service to the people of Sligo. The primary benefit of this new service is that it will provide a valuable focal point for our customers. In the short time they have been in operation, the Customer Service Team have been commended for the caring and professional way in which they provide this service.’ The Cathaoirleach added ‘Sligo County Council is formally and very publicly committed to the principles of quality customer service, and we expect our service to be evaluated to the highest standards.’

The Minister was presented with a special ‘Information Pack’ by the Customer Services Team, which included a framed representation of Sligo County Council’s principles of quality customer service.
