Community Smoke Alarm Scheme

The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government allocated funding to local authorities in 2007 for the provision of smoke alarms to vulnerable households across the country.

The objective of the Community Smoke Alarm Scheme was to target vulnerable households (non local authority housing) which might not be captured by other funding measures already available.

Sligo County Council with the assistance of the voluntary sector identified vulnerable households which were in need of smoke alarms and arranged for the supply of two free 10 year self contained smoke alarms per household. A total of 250 households benefited from this scheme. Sligo County Council acknowledges the support and assistance given by the community and voluntary sector in identifying the households and in the installation of the alarms. This scheme would not have succeeded were it not for their assistance.
