Housing Adaptation Grants for People with a Disability Scheme, Mobility Aids Housing Grant Scheme and Housing Aid for Older People Scheme
Housing Grant Schemes Information
The Council’s allocation for the above three Schemes for 2017 is €1,326,824, of which 80% or €1,061,459.20 is recoupable from the Department with the balance of 20% or €265,365 (€270,000 in Council budget) to be provided from the Councils own resources. Commitments to end September 2017 amount to over €1.5 million. In addition, applications which have been lodged with the Housing Section and which have still to be processed, amount to a further €1.5 million (estimated).
The Housing section will deal with current applications and future applications in the following manner.
The Council intends to continue to process applications which it has received to date, but these applications cannot be paid out until 2018 (subject to Department and Council Allocation for 2018). These applications will be dealt with on a medical priority basis with Housing Adaptation Grants for People with a Disability Scheme and Mobility Aids Housing Grant Scheme applicants generally taking priority over Housing Aid for Older People Scheme applicants.
To manage the present situation and so that applicants, Councillors and staff are operating within a workable and understood arrangement, Priority 1 applications in respect of the Housing Adaptation Grants for People with a Disability Scheme, and in respect of the Mobility Aids Housing Grant Scheme will only be accepted until further notice. No further applications will be accepted under the Housing Aid for Older People Scheme until further notice.
The fundamental issue is Grant schemes which are oversubscribed with substantially more applications than the allocated resource can support. Our objective is to try to manage the Schemes in a way that are fair to applicants and which does not lead to unrealistic expectations that the Council are not in a position to deliver on.
