Following the Local Elections 2019, Sligo County Council is establishing new Strategic Policy Committees (SPC’s).
Draft Strategic Policy Committee (S.P.C.) Scheme 2019 - 2024
Strategic Policy Committees are Local Authority Committees whose membership includes elected councillors, representatives of business, farming interests, environmental/conservation groups, trade unions and community and voluntary members. The role of Strategic Policy Committees is to advise and assist the Council in the formulation, development and review of policy. The SPC system is intended to give councillors and relevant sectoral interests an opportunity for full involvement in the policy making process from the early stages.
The proposed structure of Sligo County Council’s Strategic Policy Committees is as follows:
- SPC 1 - Housing & Corporate
- SPC2 - Environment & Infrastructure
- SPC 3 - Planning, Community & Economic Development, Arts & Culture
- SPC 4 - Climate Change
Members of the SPC’s will comprise of local elected members and representatives of the following sectoral groups:
- Trade Union
Draft Strategic Policy Scheme
Sligo County Council has prepared a Draft Strategic Policy Committee Scheme for the period 2019-2024. Submissions on this draft Scheme are now being invited and can be submitted to:

Following adoption of the Scheme by the Council, sectoral nominees will then be sought from the National Pillars and the Public Participation Network (PPN)
