Swimming at Deadman’s Point, Rosses Point

Following two recent incidents at the weekend in Rosses Point where two strong swimmers in two separate incidents were taken from the water in rescues involving the Beach Lifeguards and Sligo Yacht Club, Sligo County Council would like to advise the public of the dangers of swimming in the area known as Deadman's Point,  adjacent to Sligo Yacht Club in Rosses Point.  The outdoor tidal pool can be extremely dangerous to swimmers due to very strong currents which is clearly signposted.

This area is not part of the control zone covered by the Beach Byelaws 2007 for Rosses Point

Sligo County Council advises anyone that may get into any difficulties in the water not to attempt to swim against the current, the easiest way to reach the shoreline is to swim perpendicular to the flow
