Cathaoirleach Commends Our Special Olympians

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Gerry Murray visited Gallagher House in Tubbercurry, and welcomed the fact that ‘one of my final duties as Cathaoirleach is to be with our friends in Gallagher House to celebrate the achievements of our Special Olympic athletes. Each and every one of you are a credit to their families and coaches, these are the people who work quietly and efficiently behind the scenes preparing their athletes, and without them this success would not have been possible. You have shown that the joy of competing lies at the heart of sport, and your exceptional performances at the national games have been an inspiration for young athletes everywhere.’

The Cathaoirleach also paid tribute to Annie Killoran ‘who has been at the heart of this community at various levels since she founded an athletic club here in the 1950’s. But her main achievement, and key legacy, was in realising her ambition to provide social training and learning facilities in a home environment.’
