Water Conservation Notice - Please Help Maintain Our Water Supplies

Sligo County Council wish to advise consumers that due to the protracted period of dry weather, water sources in Sligo are currently at very low levels. The Council is appealing to the public for assistance in minimising disruptions to supply by limiting water usage to essential needs only. We are requesting householders, landowners and owners of commercial premises in all parts of Sligo city and county to take all possible measures to conserve water and to avoid unnecessary usage over the summer months. It should be noted that intermittent rainfall of relatively short duration will not significantly improve the situation during this prolonged dry period.

Under the Water Services Act 2007 Local Authorities are authorised to prohibit the use of water for certain purposes and failure to comply can result in arrest, prosecution and fines.

To avoid unnecessary demand on the water supply network, consumers are requested, until further notice to refrain from using hosepipes for watering gardens, washing cars, power washing buildings, filling pools or irrigating or spraying crops.
