Launch of Mayor’s Ball Tickets 2010

Tickets are now on sale for the Annual Mayor’s Ball. The launch will be held in the Clarion Hotel at 2pm and the Ball will take place on the 6th of February.

Mayor Councillor Jimmy McGarry

Councillor Jim McGarry, Mayor of Sligo said: “On behalf of myself and the Mayor’s Ball Committee I am delighted to officially launch the tickets for the Mayor’s Ball 2010! This year proceeds will go to two local charities – Sligo Cancer Support Centre and the Northwest Hospice. I was invited to visit the Cancer Support Centre in Wine Street and was greatly impressed by the great work Maureen and her team are doing at this centre. Sligo Cancer Support Centre is a place of peace and hope where people with cancer and their families can access support, counselling, holistic therapies and healing workshops in a caring and tranquil environment. The Northwest Hospice provides Care and support for those dealing with life limiting illnesses.

They are both charities which need and deserve our full support and I am hoping that people support the Ball, in a time of recession charities need all the help we can possibly give them.”

Councillor McGarry continued: “The night will begin with a Champagne and wine reception in the Canis Major with music provided by Sligo Orpheus Choir. Our guest speaker on the night is Sligo’s very own Emmy Award winning Director-Ms Dearbhla Walsh. Dearbhla has directed episodes of Eastenders, Shameless and the Tudors and won the Emmy for Outstanding Direction in a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special for Part 1 of the series Little Dorrit. The after dinner music will be provided by Crossroads and DJ Marty.
