Public Asked For Assistance in Preserving Water Supplies

Sligo County Council has advised that supplies are currently being maintained on all public water schemes throughout the county. Reservoir levels and network flows are being monitored continuously to facilitate early detection of any leaks on the water distribution network.  Leak repairs on the public water distribution network are ongoing on a daily basis in response to incidents as they arise.  These repairs are being carried out as quickly as possible in order to minimise any interruptions to supply. To date this repair work is not causing any significant long term disruption to public water supplies. There are however numerous leaks at service connections throughout the county which are affecting supplies to individual houses and are also impacting on reservoir levels and network pressures. The Council are appealing to the public for their continued co-operation in reporting all known leaks and in carrying out repairs to leaks on private property in order to eliminate leakage and wastage where possible and preserve supplies for all members of the community.

All water supplies may be subject to curtailment at night time as necessary to preserve reservoir levels for day-time use and for fire-fighting. Householders and farmers are once again reminded to check fittings and appliances, as they may have sustained damage during the recent frost leading to leakage and wastage of drinking water supplies. Also, landlords and keyholders are asked to check their properties for leak damage, as the emergency number has already received numerous calls regarding leaks in such properties.
