03/11/2009 - Tubbercurry Training Education and Enterprise PromotionFollowing on from the successful enterprise forums hosted in Sligo and Enniscrone, a Training, Education and Enterprise promotion will be held in Teach Laighne, Tubbercurry on Wednesday 11th November. The promotion will run from 4.00pm to 8.00pm is free of charge to the public. The event is being organised by the Sligo County Development Board in conjunction with FAS, Sligo Leader Partnership and Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce and Community Association.
The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Gerry Murray expects a high level of local interest in the initiative. ‘This promotion will be of great benefit to people who have recently lost their job or are working reduced hours. The theme of the forum is choice, and people will be able to explore the many options to them in terms of training, education and new business opportunities. Now, more than ever, it is important that people are aware of the range of excellent supports available to them, and I think this initiative will be very well received by the South Sligo community.’ The Chairman of the Sligo County Development Board, Councillor Tony McLoughlin, sees the active involvement of the other key agencies pivotal to the success of the initiative. ‘FAS, Leader and the Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce have played a major contribution in terms of organising and promoting this venture, and I think their participation will ensure we will have a very broad-ranging and informative forum on 11th November.’ Sligo County Council’s Director of Services for Community, Enterprise, Arts and the Environment, Rita McNulty, anticipates a high level of interest in the event. “At a time when local enterprises are facing unprecedented challenges, I believe people will benefit from the opportunity to engage with the agencies and to obtain advice and information. Sligo is acknowledged as the key centre of economic growth in the Northwest, and it is important that we provide the necessary supports to facilitate new and potential enterprise.’ Roger McCarrick, Member of Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce said ‘We welcome any sort of information dissemination that would help either unemployed people or people with business ideas to move to the next level in order to realise alternative employment opportunities. A lot of the agencies would be viewed as being distant by many people and the fact that these agencies are coming out into the communities should help a gelling of those hungry for information and those with the information.’ Michael Glennon, Leader sees the Promotion ‘as a great opportunity for people who have a self employment idea to find out information on financial assistances that might be available to them to help them start their business. I’d particularly love to see people who have recently lost their jobs and who need reassurance, if they are planning on setting up a business, that there is help available and to hear it first hand from the agencies.’ Marie Gallagher, Manager Training Services FAS, says ‘this initiative of an Inter Agency approach to training, education and enterprise is important in developing the region for the future, and that we have people who have the relevant skills and knowledge to equip them for the future.’
